Marshfield Youth Basketball was formed in 1975 as a town wide basketball program open to all school age boys and girls. The program offers both recreational and competitive basketball leagues. Our focus is on learning good sportsmanship, team play and, respect for others, while developing fundamental skills, and understanding the rules of the game.
The program is run completely by volunteers with the goal of providing a safe and fun youth sports experience for the children in Marshfield.
In 2013/2014, the MYB Town Recreational Program had over 810 participants playing on a total of 82 teams. Our Travel Team programs combined had over 320 participants on 29 different teams.
Thanks to the continued support of the community and the help of our many volunteers.

Message from the President of Marshfield Youth Basketball - Bob Ahearn
As I start my fourth year as President of Marshfield Youth Basketball, I wanted to thank all of the current board members and prior board members for the success of our basketball program. It takes many hours of hard work and dedication to oversee the entire program from travel teams, recreation leagues and instructional clinics.
This year we will again have over 1,000 players registered to play basketball in the Town of Marshfield. Our goal is to develop these children into solid basketball players by teaching them the fundamentals of the game along with sportsmanship, while making sure they are having fun.
I am excited this year to announce some new changes to our travel basketball program. We have purchased new uniforms for all of our travel teams this year. Also, we are emphasizing the need for travel players to play recreation basketball on Saturdays in addition to travel basketball. We are going to make the recreation leagues competitive and keep score and standings.
We have also, for the second year in a row, partnered with Dick’s Sporting Goods in Hanover and they had a Marshfield Youth Basketball Appreciation Day in October which allowed our parents to make purchases at a discount that day.
We have a very interactive and informational website www.marshfieldyouthbasketball.com. Please check it out from time to time as we constantly upload photos and other new items on our teams.
Good luck to all of our travel teams this year as you compete against other cities and towns throughout the South Shore. I am confident that all players, coaches and parents will act as proud representatives of the Town of Marshfield.
That's right!! We are putting together our 6TH annual Friday Night Lights and all MYB teams registered with Hoopsters Basketball in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are eligible to join in the fun.
Running every Friday from September 11, 2015 to October 23, 2015 at Marshfield School locations. This is the event everyone waits for! Teams from the same grade, but any team level or league, compete against each other to start their basketball season. Coaches mix the players, then divide the teams competitively to get two complete teams and then each coach takes a group and plays. They can keep the same teams or switch off so each team gets the benefit of each coach, and make adjustments along the way. It is a really fun atmosphere and there is no admission for spectators.
Do not be mistaken however, each team plays to win and just so it is real, we provide referees for each game and a score keeper.
This has worked out so well from many perspectives in past years. Coaches learn about the players they do not normally coach, players get to know the coaches and the other players, and everyone gets in playing form for the upcoming tryouts and season.
MYB encourages players to continue to play basketball and work on their skills and sportsmanship in the off-season. There is a high quality basketball camp right here in Marshfield called SWISH Basketball Camp for Girls in Grades 3 to 8 and for Boys in Grades 4 to 8.
The camp is directed by our Marshfield High School Girls Basketball Coaches Rick Wheaton and Rick Fredericks along with Dean College Coach Rico Cabral. The camp is staffed by an impressive list of coaches and takes place July 6th through 10th at Marshfield High School, Furnace Brook Middle School and Martinson Elementary School.
